Ying operator guide

Ying is a Chinese operator who was released in Rainbow Six Siege with Operation Blood Orchid. The attacker is arguably in her golden era as everyone is afraid of her Candelas, including professional players.

Here's everything you need to know about Ying!

Ying's biography

Siu was born in Hong Kong, and she become a protection operative shortly after finishing high school. According to Ubisoft's biography, "having developed explosive short-range power and combat skills via private tuition, she joined an elite security service with the aim of becoming an all-purpose operative."

Later on, she traveled to Tel Aviv, Israel, where she spent two years. When she returned to Hong Kong, she joined the SDU: Flying Tigers. There, he trained with the S.A.S, and her "creative usage of flashbangs earned her the codename of Ying (firefly)," according to Ubisoft's biography.

Ying's loadout

Primary: T-95 LSW Light Machine Gun / SIX12 Shotgun

Secondary: Q-929 Handgun

Gadgets: 2x Smoke Grenades / 2x Hard Breach Charges

Ying's loadout is really strong for taking gunfights. Players usually choose her LMG as her primary weapon, which gives Ying a clear advantage over some defenders. Having such a strong weapon makes the shotgun almost obsolete, but some people decide to give it a chance when attacking certain sites.

The only possible discussion about her loadout might be in the gadgets section. Smoke grenades are a good addition to any attacking lineup, so players usually bring them to the battlefield. However, for some takes, Ying's hard breach charges can be vital  — especially when attacking sites with hatches. Attacker repick gives you a chance to decide what's better, so use it to your advantage!

Ying's role in Rainbow Six Siege

Ying's great amount of utility and powerful weapons make her good at different roles.

First, Ying can be used as an entry fragger. Her LMG puts her in a really good place at taking gunfights. Combined with her Candelas and Smokes, she is a great operator to have when attackers perform the final push to the site.

Secondly, Ying can use her utility (four Candelas and two Smokes) to remove certain defender gadgets. Although she can't destroy bulletproof utility, she can open Aruni Gates and trigger Wamai's and Jäger's gadgets.

How to use Ying's gadget

Ying gadget is called Candela, a small canister that blinds people nearby — including both attackers and defenders. However, Ying's special glasses make her immune to the Candela flash.

As we previously mentioned, she can use her Candelas to trigger certain defender gadgets. Nevertheless, the Candelas are used to blind defenders or to move them from a certain position. Having four Candelas in her pocket, Ying can change a round in just a few seconds.

Ying's Candelas can be cooked, just like a fragmentation grenade. Once you hold a Candela, you will notice three holes in it — that's Candela's timer. Once the three holes are green, you can throw the Candela. If you don't wait for the green holes to appear before throwing it, the Candela won't explode automatically.

Ying Candelas can also be deployed to surfaces, such as barricades, soft walls, or floors. Once the gadget has been triggered, you're free to push the defenders, who will probably be blinded.

How to counter Ying in Rainbow Six Siege?

The best counter to Ying is Warden, whose glasses prevent him from getting flashed by her Candelas. Trap operators are also good to counter Ying as these can stop her when trying to rush the site after using her device.

It's also worth noting that Candelas aren't bulletproof. Therefore, if you see a Candela being thrown at you, try to destroy it by shooting it.
